Educational Programs and Tours

We provide quality environmental and cultural education programs for school groups in a variety of settings to meet your unique needs: at the Center, off-site in other park areas, or brought to the school by a trained naturalist. Please refer to the sections below on specific program offerings.
Onsite Programs at the Nature Center or Regional Parks
- Nature Area Tours and Field Games
Our nature area tours and field games are fun, environmental education activities designed to motivate and enthuse students while fostering an appreciation, understanding and respect for the natural resources of the Sacramento region.

Give your students a special opportunity step outside the classroom or step back into time with our field studies programs.
Outreach Programs in the Classroom
- Life Sciences
These interactive, hands-on programs have been designed to align with the State Science Standards and bring the fun, diversity and richness of the natural world to your classroom.
- Aquatics
Our Aquatic Ecosystems programs provide hands-on opportunities to explore living things and ecosystems as profiled in the Life Sciences sections of the California State Science Framework. These programs are supported by the Bureau of Reclamation, The Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District, The County of Sacramento Environmental Management Department, Municipal Services Agency Department of Water Resources Stormwater Quality Program, and The Sacramento Area Creeks Council.
- History and Native American Culture
These programs are designed to fulfill several goals of the California State History-Social Science Framework.
Resources for Educators
- Workshops and Classes for Educators
Educators will receive hands-on training to teach a course on the culture, history and nature areas along the American River Parkway. Curriculum guides with activities and discussion topics are provided for each course.
