History, Mission and Goals of the Nature Center

Learn about the history of the Nature Center and our goal to create greater awareness, understanding and appreciation of the natural and cultural resources of the Sacramento Region.

Who was Effie Yeaw

Effie Yeaw was a leading spirit in the movement for protecting Sacramento's natural environment. Her vision stimulated powerful support for environmental causes such as adoption of a county tree control ordinance, formation of the Save the American River Association (SARA) and establishment of the American River Parkway.
